Hi, welcome to becoming my traveller clients.

Here is where i will be sharing with you some of the things to take note of as you travel pertaining to your travel insurance and what will you need when it comes to claim.

As most of the travel is via flight nowadays so this post is catered mostly for air travellers.

Along the post you will see the note Keep This, meaning to take note that you need to keep this documents for your claims later on.

Pre-Travel

Before you even flies you need to take note of the emergency contact number of the insurance company you gotten the policy from, i have included in this list some of the emergency contact from different insurance company that is common in the market.

Emergency Contact for:

Income Insurance - +65 6338 1222

AIG - +65 6733 2552

Singlife - +65 6460 9392

MSIG - +65 6323 8288

QBE - +65 6322 2688

This list will expand in time

The coverages start before you even flies, if for some reasons that you are unable to fly, you can claim back your

- Travelling Tickets Fare

- Accomodations Cost

- Any entertainment fare such as Theme Park and Shows etc.

The reasons that will allow you to do so includes but not limited to:

- Passing away of travelling members or family members and yourself

- Injuries of travelling members and yourself

- Serious Illness of travelling members and family members and yourself

- Travel Advisory issued by MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) about travelling to the country

you can use this site to check: https://www.mfa.gov.sg/Where-Are-You-Travelling-To

Delays?

If your flight is delayed, for at least 6 hours, the airline will and is supposed to give you some written proof that can be in the form of a paper stub or email. This could be used for travel insurance claims so Keep This

Other than that they may also give you some form of compensation such as hotel or meal vouchers for your inconvenience.

Keep This

- Airline stub or email for delay

- Medical Receipt for injury or serious illness

- Death Cert for death of family members/travelling member etc

Caution!

Due to the volatile nature of Covid-19, if the government decides to close down border and stop travelling between Singapore and certain country that you are travelling to, this is not claimable so you need to take discretion as you choose your destination country.

Touch-Down

The moment you touch down, please don't be gan chiong and rush out of the airport, especially if you checked in your luggage and bags earlier on. Please check if your luggage/bag is all good.

Take note this section shall applies whether you reached your destination or during transit.

Check

The exterior, is there any cracks, damage etc

The zip, is it still functional?

The wheels is it intact?

The contents, is everything still inside?

if there is any issue with your belongings then you need to keep the luggage/bag first and take picture. of course it is challenging to open the bag so it is up to you to decide if you want to be so through.

At this stage as you are still in airport you can actually find the ground crew for assistance so they can advise you on the compensation accorded to you.

Keep This

Your damaged belongings such as luggage/bag etc

Compensation note from airline

Air Ticket Stub

Other than damaged, there are also cases of Delayed or Lost Baggage.

You are entitled to compensation if the delay is more than 6 hours and again you will need to stub of the airline.

If it is lost or considered lost after certain number of hours you can even claim for the cost of buying new clothes and necessities so...

Keep This

- Airline Stub for delay or lost baggage

- Receipt for buying new clothes and necessities

During the trip

While you enjoy your holiday i hate to be the person who tell you but take note of your belongings!

At this stage 2 types of travel issue happens usually

1. Illness

this can be pre-existing or small illness.

Other than pre-existing condition It usually comes in the form of flu, cough or food poisoning. It's no joke if you are not acclimated to your destination country especially in places that is hotter or colder than Singapore

2. Theft/Burglary.

If you are sure that if your stuff is missing for clear reason that someone stole it or you were robbed then you can claim the cost of the items.

In this case, Police Report is COMPULSORY, no matter what may the locals like Hotel Staff or whoever may say.

Keep This

Receipts for medical bill

Police Report

Coming Back

This is largely similar to touching down at the destination so again, check your luggage/bag at the airport before rushing home, if not it will become increasingly difficult to claim that it is the airline whom is the person responsible for the damage later on.

and take note if you are down with any illness such as Cold, Flu, Cough and Food Poisoning Etc. at this stage you can still claim travel insurance for illness upon returning. However the time period available for claim depends on the insurance company you got from, it can range from 48 hours upon touch down up to 5 days.

As a rule of thumb, just make sure to see doctor within 48 hours upon returning if you feel unwell.

Lastly

Other than the Keep This note along the post i will list here various items you need to keep/collect for the claim.

Keep This

Generic Items:

Passport Page with photo

Passport Chop Page

Itinery or airline booking confirmation

This is applicable for all claims

For damaged belongings you will need:

The original items itself

Receipt of the item if possible

Photos of the items from all angle especially the damaged parts

Lost belongings:

The receipt of the items

Police Report for theft

Illness:

Medical bill/receipts

Death or serious illness of family members/travelling members etc:
